On June 7th, I worked on the restoration for just a couple hours. I completed the removal of the starboard toe rail and starboard jib track. Let me just say that there is no substitute for the correct tool – even something as simple as having the correct screwdriver. Note the toe rail lying across the cabin roof – this is roughly a 16’ section. I have been toying around with the idea of designing a new toe rail for Froonie. The first iteration plan is to saw a large rabbet, or notch, in a piece of 3”x2” mahogany. The lower edge will extend roughly 1.5” to 2” from the deck, with another 1” of rail above the deck. (I’ll try to draw a pic, and post it)
Aside from completing the removal of the starboard toe rail, I prepared the surface of the head through-hull patch for another application of fairing compound. I brushed some ‘neat’ epoxy on with a foam brush, allowed to tack-up, and then mixed a pot of West System 410 Microlight filler, applied, and then sealed with release fabric. I will likely need just one for fairing application to recreate the hull contour.
