Okay, so I am really excited to be back on the restoration! I waited far too long to resume work, and can not really say why I neglected Froonie like I did. I believe it was November when I was last hard at work on the restoration. I think that I just needed a short break from the project, divert some attention to other things, and recharge the batteries a bit. In the mean time, I learned that we have a new comer to the Sea Sprite ranks - hat's off to you Kerby! The SS23 is a really great looking boat. It has the lines of a vessel twice its size; can't wait to get Froonie off the hard.
On the 25th of April, I applied the second epoxy barrier coat after properly preparing the surface: surface sanding to create texture for the new epoxy to bond to, rinsed the bottom with water, dried and, finally, wiped down the hull with acetone for a clean surface. I also took the opportunity to move the jack stands and keel blocks, and prepared those surfaces for the "neat" epoxy. I applied the "neat" epoxy with a roller, covering the entire bottom including the rudder. As the epoxy began to "kick" - just tacky to the touch - I applied fairing compound. With this second application of fairing compound, I used WestSystems 410 Micro-Lite product. With the previous and first fairing compound application, I used the 407 product; the 410 product seemed a little easier to use. So, here are a couple pictures showing the second epoxy barrie coat and fairing compound applied.
