Hardware Installation

Sunday, May 29th, would be a day to attend to a few hardware installations.  I began with the forward finish pieces for the coaming boards - a fiberglass return block, and a teak cap block.  I bed the fiberglass return block in polyurethane (Sitka 291) and secured with bronze wood screws from the interior of the cabin (countersunk to appear smooth to the interior wall).  Secondly, I bed the teak cap block in polysulfide and attached to the fiberglass return block with bronze wood screws.

Next on the day's list was to bed the chainplate covers in polyurethane and attach to the deck with sms fasteners.

After the chainplate covers were secured, I turned my attention to the bow chalks.  These chalks are stainless steel (one of just a couple stainless steel hardware pieces on Froonie), and secured by 1/4" stainless steel machine screws, washers and nuts.  The chalks are bed in polyurethane as well.

The mast step was a relatively quick job - couple stainless machine screws with beefy washers and nuts - bed in polyurethane.

Last on the day's list was the Wilcox-Crittenden 4" opening port.  I set the port in a liberal amount of polyurethane and secured with stainless machine screws, washers and nuts.  The cabin wall had varying amounts of girth where the fasteners attached, and so this had me going back to the marine chandler for two longer machine screws in order to finish the install.
